John R. Carroll, Jr., 83, of Shrewsbury passed away Saturday, January, 23, 2021 at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy. He was the husband of Josephine “Josie” (Rode) Carroll and the late Margaret A. (Stroud) Carroll who passed away in 2016. Born in Baltimore, MD he was a son of the late John R. Carroll, Sr. and Celeste (Banner) Carroll. John worked as a property contract manager for over 30 years with government contracts for Westinghouse prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Parkton, MD. John enjoyed walking on the rail trail with his huskies, reading, riding snowmobiles, hunting and spending time at his log cabin in northern PA. John was a train enthusiast and volunteered as a flagger with Steam into History for several years. He was a past master of the Shrewsbury Masonic Lodge, #423 and served in the US Navy and US Air Force. In addition to his wife Josie, he is survived by two children Charles Carroll and wife Judy and Bonny, wife of Matthew Lutter; step-son Jason Jones; four grandsons Jason Carroll and wife Heather, SSgt. Andrew Lutter and wife Johanna, Jacob Lutter and Christopher Carroll; two great-grandchildren Sophia and Hannah Carroll; one niece Michelle Carroll Hunter. John was preceded in death by a son John R. Carroll, III, one sister Ann Carroll, one brother Richard Carroll and one nephew Michael Carroll. Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Dr. Lancaster, PA 17603 in his memory.
