John Anthony Fornadel, 81, passed from this life on Friday, February 2, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Ruth (Townend) Fornadel and they would have celebrated 61 years of marriage in April 2024. Born in Loydell, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John Francis and Helen Mary (Patrick) Fornadel.

John proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1962. He had been employed as an Analyst for the Department of Defense (National Security Administration) from 1963 to 1997 and then at the Shrewsbury Lutheran Home from 1998 to 2003. He was a 48-year active member, 19 years as Fire Chief Emeritus of Station 61, Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company from 1985 to 2001. John was also a member of the Firefighters Association of York County. He enjoyed time away hunting at the Stump Jumpers camp in McKean County and vacationing with his family in the Outer Banks, NC.

In additional to his loving wife, John is survived by a daughter, Pamela and her husband, David Jones, and a son, John Fornadel and his wife, Karen; six grandchildren, Spencer Jones, Emily Still and husband, Jonathan, Seth Jones, Ellie Jones, Jonathan and Alexander Fornadel; four siblings, Barbara Lucas, James and his wife, Lynn Fornadel, Richard and his wife, Joanne Fornadel, and Christine and her husband, Thomas Hunter; a brother-in-law, Paul Townend; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, Frank Lucas, and a sister-in-law, Sharon Townend.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 10 at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. 2nd Street, New Freedom, PA 17349 followed by a funeral liturgy at 12 Noon at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 315 North Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA 17349. Inurnment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery immediately following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company, 21 W.
