He was also a senior member of the American Society of Quality and the Wire Association International where he greatly valued his wire industry relationships. His professional career began in Baltimore and transitioned to York in various manufacturing and operations capacities, most recently as the Director of Technical Services and Wire Products Manager for IWM International LLC.

John participated in the folk music ministry, the TMIY men’s adult faith formation, Eucharistic Adoration, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
John’s greatest passion was for Barbara and his family. John and Barb met at Penn State and he followed her south after graduation. They married in 1985 and put roots down on five acres next to a trout stocked stream in New Freedom and never looked back. In addition to the 3 kids, they raised horses, chickens, and an abundance of cats and dogs. Along with a beautiful family, it was something he could only dream about.
John was the son of the late Ernie and Grace (Fisher) Schleicher of Reading and in addition to Barbara is survived by daughter Anna and her husband Craig of Fawn Grove, Molly of Newport, RI, and Samuel of Middletown. He is also survived by brother Thomas and wife Janet of Richmond, VA, and David of Haymarket, VA, grandchildren Elizabeth Grace and Charlie, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
