John C. Wiley, Iii

John C. Wiley, III, 89, of Stewartstown, PA, passed away at his home on Monday, December 23, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Fawn Township, he was a son of the late John C., Jr. and Ethel E. (Kimmons) Wiley.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Mescal D. (Hare) Wiley, to whom he was married just 12 hours shy of 70 years; his loving daughter, Melanie H. Rhein (Gregory); his cherished grandchildren, Megan E. Cody (Bryce), and Christopher W. Rhein (Brooke). He was preceded in death by his brother, David, and his sister Elizabeth. His sister, Marguerite Waldron, also mourns his passing along with his nieces.

Following his attendance at Delta High School, John was employed by Bel-View Farm from 1948-1966. He then worked as a foreman at Redco Corp. from 1966 until he retired in 1997. Following retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends at his cabin in Mifflin County, PA.

A man of many passions, John was an avid sports fan who loved Penn State football and NASCAR. He found joy through hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, gardening, refinishing furniture, and listening to bluegrass music. His love for community was evident through his long-standing affiliations with many organizations. John was a dedicated member of Centre Presbyterian Church, where he served as a trustee for several terms. He was a proud member of the Savage Gun Club for over 60 years, being the oldest original member, and also an original member of the Stewartstown Jaycees; he was a social member of Stewartstown and Fawn Grove’s Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Sons of American Legion of Stewartstown. Additionally, he was a former member of the Stewartstown Lions Club. His life was marked by a deep love for family, friends, and the community he served.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 6-8 PM at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown, PA 17363. A second viewing will be Monday, December 30 at Centre Presbyterian Church, 83 New Park Rd., New Park, PA 17352 at 10 AM. A funeral service will begin at 11 AM at the church; interment will immediately follow the service in the church’s cemetery.
