Joseph Ernest Kling, Sr., 85, of Delta, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully at York Hospital on September 16, 2023. Joseph is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce Ann B. Kling and his children; Joseph E. Kling, Jr. and wife Cheryl; Karen A. Halsted and husband Benjamin; Keith E. Kling and wife Erin; and David C. Kling. He was also a loving grandfather to his six grandchildren. Joe was born March 30, 1938 in Baltimore City, Maryland to Josef and Anna Rosenaur Kling. He grew up in the Overlea area of Baltimore County, went to St Michael's Catholic School and graduated from Parkville Senior High School in 1956. After high school, Joe joined the Maryland National Guard and held various other jobs until he joined the Baltimore City Police Department. He served on the police force for several years before he joined the Maryland National Guard full time as a helicopter mechanic and aircraft inspector. Joe officially retired from the Maryland National Guard in 1985, at which time he joined the Border Patrol in Midland, Texas. He maintained aircraft for the Border Patrol until his retirement in 1996. He then returned to Delta, Pennsylvania to be closer to his children and grandchildren. As a passionate train enthusiast, Joe enjoyed traveling to see different railroads and railroad musuems across the country. He was also a member of several Model Railroad clubs in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Joe was also a member of VFW Post 8185, American Legion Post 182, and the 29th Division Association, Inc. A memorial service will be held on October 7th at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Church of Delta, 962 Flintville Road, Delta, PA 17314. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
