Joseph "Joe" Russell Wilson

Joseph (Joe) Russell Wilson, 74, died Saturday November 18, 2023 at the home of his niece, Crystal Turner. Joe was born, April 26, 1949, in Freeland, Baltimore County, Maryland. He was a son of the late Joseph Frank and Blanche Ester (Bell) Wilson.

Joe was drafted into the U.S. Army in April of 1969 and served one year of combat service in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged as a Specialist 4 in November of 1970. In 2004 Joe retired as a Foreman following 30 years’ employment with the Maryland State Highway Administration. Joe enjoyed fishing, gardening, and socializing with his friends at the many local watering holes.

Joe is predeceased by his four brothers, Melvin, Roland, Donald, and Calvin Wilson. Also his two sisters, Mildred Headley and Arlene LaMotte.

His is survived by his son, Joseph C. Wilson, of Bowie, MD, his two sisters, Pauline Gouge and Margie Walchuck both of Freeland, MD, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Friday November 24, from 10 am-12 pm at the Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc. 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12 pm at the mortuary, with the Rev. Scott D. Shumaker officiating. Burial is in Pine Grove UM Cemetery, Parkton, MD.
