Josephine M. Ennis, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 9, 2016, from Manor Care South, York.She was the wife of the late Leonard J. Ennis, to whom she was married for 67 years. A public viewing will be from 10 a.m. until a funeral service begins at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14 at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second Street, New Freedom. Interment to follow in New Freedom Cemetery.Pastor Jeffrey A. Slemp, Jr. of Grace Church, Shrewsbury, will officiate. Josephine was born April 9, 1927 in Baltimore, MD to the late Joseph Buragino and Christina Vasallo Buragino who emigrated from Italy. She later moved from Baltimore, MD to Glen Rock and then to New Port Richey, FL. Josephine was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and entertaining. She took pleasure in crocheting and sewing and shared her many gifts with family and friends. She enjoyed boating and was the first licensed female steamship captain on the Chesapeake Bay. She loved helping others and used that in her employment as a CNA with the Lutheran Home of Shrewsbury. She was a member of Shrewsbury Baptist Church where Josephine enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in the Christian puppet ministry. Josephine is survived by son, John L. Ennis and his wife, Catherine H. Ennis; daughter, Donna L. Berk; son, George L. Ennis; her grandchildren, John D. Berk and Della D’Amore, Jim E. Ennis, and Nikki L. Griggs and her husband, Alex D. Griggs; as well as five great-grandchildren, Talen Perry, Kincaid Ennis, Oliver Griggs, Jacob D’Amore and Erica D’Amore. Josephine is survived by her sisters, Mary Hartka and Antoinette Meadowcroft.
