Joyce A. Brown

d. February 10, 2022

Joyce Ann (Colvin) Brown of Pylesville, MD, was a caring mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend. Joyce went to Heaven on Thursday afternoon on February 10, 2022 at York Hospital surrounded by family. Joyce was born in Culpeper, Virginia on December 6th, 1936, the daughter of William Leonard Colvin and Mary Frances Hayne; she grew up in Dundalk, Maryland. After marrying Robert S. Brown, Joyce brought her family up to Pylesville, Maryland to plant their roots here and watch their family grow. Joyce was a woman of strong faith and was an active member in her church, Delta Chapel. Joyce was a woman of many skills and once worked as a seamstress, managed a camp kitchen and as a bus driver when her children were young. That one of her greatest honors was growing her family and being you strong mother, grandmother, and friend. Many people knew Joyce as “Grammy”. In her role as full-time grandmother, she led many people to Christ and she was an extremely joyful person to be around. She would never let you leave without a full heart of love and a full belly of food. Joyce is survived by her children, Cheryl L. Sparks (Kenneth Sparks), Robert S. Brown Jr. (Linda Brown) Carla J. Irwin (Charles Irwin) and John R. Brown (Karen Brown). Joyce’s memory lives on in her 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings, William L. Colvin (Rebecca Colvin), Patti L. Ballard (Rev. Carlton Ballard) Terri Riddle (David Riddle). She was predeceased by her daughter, Cynthia Brown, husband, Robert S. Brown and sister, Phyllis J. Malamphy. A private memorial and burial service will be held for her family, conducted by Rev. Carlton Ballard of Delta Chapel. The family requests donations to be made in Joyce’s name to Delta Chapel in lieu of flowers. Matthew 19:14 states, “But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Joyce is in the kingdom of God and is rejoicing forever. Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc. of Stewartstown is assisting the family with the arrangements. HartensteinCares.com
