Laura E. Schlenoff

August 31, 1989 — November 20, 2018

Laura Elizabeth Schlenoff, 29, died Tuesday, November 20, 2018. Born in Baltimore, MD on August 31, 1989, Laura was the beloved daughter of Drs.David and Elizabeth Schlenoff of New Freedom. Surviving in addition to her parents, she leaves to cherish her memory, 4 siblings: Jessica Prueitt and her husband Benjamin, Rebecca Malone and her husband Ryder, David Jonathan Schlenoff, and Serena Cole and her husband Alex; 2 nieces Alexandra and Kinley; and 3 nephews Daniel, Aidan, and Ryan. Laura treasured her many friends and family members. She was a graduate of Hereford High School, Class of2007 . She was last employed as aResidential Assistantat Penn Mar, took classes at CCBC, Essex, Trained as a certified phlebotomist and was an in home caregiver for “Home Instead Care”. Her last gig was at the New Freedom Animal Rescue; her “perfect job” because she adored lost and abandoned animals. She lived her life carefully with recklessness. Her legacy is replete with extraordinary music, art and poetry. We who knew her best will remember her for her zany humor and quick wit. No-one ever made us laugh to tears over the simple every day things in life, like the little sis. Although shy, her voice, when she thought no-one was listening, soared like an angel’s. Her poetry makes us laugh, cry and most importantly, think. When she recited it her words tumbled so fast, we struggled to keep up with her mind in flight. Few of us will ever know her torment, her low self esteem. Many took advantage of her quest to be loved and used the best of her before discarding what was left. They lost more than they could ever imagine, for she was rare in her kindness and ability to give too much. Rather than joining to mourn her, let us unite to relearn and understand her. Whatever the future holds it will contain sneaky moments when she peeks around the corner to surprise us. Hopefully we will greet her with the spontaneous joy she gifted us in life. There will be a visitation on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00pm at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St. New Freedom, PA. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Laura’s memory toAnimal Rescue; 2 Heritage Farm Dr., New Freedom, PA 17349 or http://www.animalrescueinc.org/.
