Laura Mae Swords

Laura Mae Swords, 80, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2023. She was the wife of the late Clarence S. “Sam” Swords, Jr. with whom she shared 50 years of marriage.

Born January 30, 1943, in York, she was the daughter of the late John W. Hyson, Sr. and Cora (Taylor) Hyson.

Laura graduated from Kennard- Dale High School. She was a homemaker and worked for South Eastern School District until her retirement in 2019 after 10 years of service.  She enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. She had a love for shopping, cross stitching, sewing, and crocheting. In her earlier years, she also enjoyed planting flowers and gardening.

Laura is survived by her two sons, Brian K. Swords and his wife, Lisa and Brad E. Swords and Shawn Hofler; two grandchildren, Corey Swords and Brittany Boyce; six great grandchildren, and her sister, Grace Swords. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Hyson, Jr.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, January 6, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. from Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 8426 Church Rd., Felton, with the Rev. Larry W. Parlett officiating. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell Presbyterian Church.
