Lois E. (Menges) Tompkins, 92, died Monday, November 28, 2016, at her home. She was the widow of the late W. Wilson Tompkins who died August 18, 1989. A funeral service in celebration of Lois’ life will be held on Sunday, December 4, at 2:30 PM, at Guinston Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 14130 Guinston Forge Road, Airville, with interment in the adjoining church cemetery. Officiating will be both Rev. Dr. Daniel R. Moore and Rev. Jack Maisch. There will be no viewing. Born October 8, 1924 in Lower Chanceford Township, York County, PA, Lois was a daughter of the late Granville A. and Marion (Martin) Menges. She had graduated from the former Lower Chanceford High School in 1941 and then took Business classes at Red Lion area High School graduating in 1942. She was employed 39 years as a secretary for St. John’s United Church of Christ in Red Lion retiring in 1980. Lois was an active member of Guinston Evangelical Presbyterian Church for 83 years and served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, choir member and assistant organist. In 2004, she helped to write the church history in celebration of their 250th anniversary. She was a knowledgeable historian and a valuable resource. Lois was a humble, loving mother and grandmother. She loved her family and shared her faith in God with all she met. Lois is survived by her sons; William M,. Tompkins and his wife Kathleen of Airville, Dennis E. Tompkins and his wife Shyrl of Airville, and Lee E. Tompkins of New Park, nine grandchildren; Christine Blouse and her husband Brenton, Westley Tompkins, Brett Tompkins and his wife Danielle, Steven Tompkins and his wife Cori, Matthew Tompkins and his wife Stacey, Kathy Lynn Huber and her husband Jeff, Michele Tompkins, Rebecka Krug, and Robert Tompkins, nine great grandchildren; Paige and Ian Blouse, Sophia, Sadie and Samuel Tompkins, Luke, Jacob and Grace Huber and Josiah Tompkins, a sister, Arlene Shauck of Hagerstown, MD and numerous nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by a son, Robert Oliver Tompkins, a grandson, Marc Eugene Tompkins and a granddaughter, Renee Ann Tompkins.
