Malinda Menteer (Johnson)

d. February 27, 2023

Malinda Menteer (Johnson), 70, died February 27, 2023 at her home. She was born August 13, 1952 to the late Betty (Adams) Kifer and the late Theodore Menteer. She was the oldest of 6 brothers, a sister, and several step siblings. She was the second mother to them and the boss of the family whether they liked it or not. Malinda wasn’t afraid to let anyone know that whenever the occasion presented itself. She was an often too proud parent to her only son, Jason, many times to his embarrassment. She liked to dance, she loved her music, and whether you asked or not, would sing along when the mood struck her. She loved to play games and was hosting Scrabble nights in her home with her friends to the end. She was deathly afraid of June bugs and snakes. She grew up in the foothills around the Allegheny National Forest, briefly passing through Bellefonte and State College before settling in Indiana, PA. This became home for her for nearly 30 years. She was so strong through her lengthy illness. In almost constant pain, she wouldn’t let much of anything slow her down. And when she set her mind to something, she did it. This included going back to college in 1992 and getting her undergrad degree at IUP, and working on her Masters. Tired of sitting on the sidelines of life, she went back to work after graduation as long as her health allowed it. After again leaving the workforce, she spent her time watching movies, visiting with friends and family, and bragging on her son and grandchildren. In addition to her father, Elmer Kifer, she is survived by her only son Jason A. Johnson, his wife Carrie and her two grandchildren, Lillian and Evan, seven siblings Melissa (Ron) Eckert, Mike (Julie) Menteer, Monte (Bev) Adams, Mace (Lisa) Menteer, Marshall (Donna) Menteer, Mark Menteer, Jack (Stacy) Kifer, and too many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews to count! Her son Jason is hosting a celebration of her life at Bendigo State Park on July 3rd, 2023 from 4-8pm. A graduate of Johnsonburg High School Class of 1970, Jason invites classmates, friends and family to come and help him celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, he asks that donations be made in her name with The American Diabetes Association, The American Heart Association, or The Arthritis Foundation.
