On December 16, 2016, Margaret A. Carroll, 76, died at York Hospital. She was the wife of John R. Carroll, Jr. A public viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, December 22 at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second Street, New Freedom. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 23 at St. James Episcopal Church, Parkton, Md. Interment will follow the service in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York. The Rev. William Alford will officiate. Margaret was born on June 17, 1940 to the late Paul and Ruth Ann (Jones) Stroud. She retired from the former BBL, what is now known as Becton Dickinson, as an assembler. She enjoyed doing word search puzzles, keeping her house clean and tidy, going to the mountain cabin, snowmobiling, and loving on her huskies. She also liked traveling, camping, watching scary movies and the TV series Gunsmoke, and listening to her grandchildren play their musical instruments. Margaret is survived by her husband; daughter, Bonny Lutter and husband, Matthew; son, Charles Carroll and wife, Judy; four grandchildren, Jason Carroll, Andrew and Jacob Lutter and Christopher Carroll; and one brother, Thomas Stroud. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, John R. Carroll, III; and a half-brother, Richard Stroud.
