Mary Virginia (Ruff) McGuigan of New Freedom, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully, aged 90, on Thursday, April 22, 2021.Born June 20, 1930, to Gilbert and Mary Ellen Ruff of Delta, Pennsylvania; she was a 1948 graduate of Delta High School.Mary then married William Evans McGuigan of Stewartstown, Pennsylvania on April 3, 1954, and took time to raise her four children, Deborah Kay Page (David) of Stewartstown, Pennsylvania.Mary Deinse Bennett (Robert) of Catawba, Virginia.Darlene Mae McGuigan (Deceased).David Evans McGuigan (Julia), Newport, Pennsylvania.Mary was a very accomplished seamstress, making a wide variety of clothing and crafts for friends and family.She held a variety of production jobs such as working at the Fawn Grove Manufacturing Company, sewing clothing after World War II.Mary also worked at the Hungerford Fine Foods Packing Factory, but the majority of her working career was spent at the Williamson Veneer Company of New Freedom, Pennsylvania, which later changed hands several times where she sorted and graded hardwood veneers for high quality paneling for more than 23 years.In 1977-78 she opened up her home and hosted Marie Nordin of Sandviken Sweden, a foreign exchange student for the school year.She spent much of her retired life continuing to sew and then later became an avid dissectologist.She also took great pleasure in watching the wide variety of birds from the leisure and comfort of her back porch. A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2021 from 11:30 – 12:30 pm at Bryansville United Methodist Church; 2325 Bryansville Rd., Delta, PA.A funeral service will begin at 12:30 pm on Thursday at the church. Interment in Bryansville U.M. Cemetery will follow the service. If attending, please wear a mask and social distance as necessary. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to the Bryansville United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, three children, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
