Mary E. Phillips

Mary E. Phillips, 92, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. She was the wife of Paul D. Phillips, with whom she married on January 18, 1947, celebrating 71 years together. Mary was born May 18, 1926 in Hoffmanville, MD to the late Richard and Mary Ellen (Hoover) Hutchins. Mary worked at a sewing factory until she attended Beauty School. She was self-employed for many years, owning her own beauty shop. She enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting, and sewing. Most of all, she loved raising her children and spending time with her husband and family. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her five children Dennie K. Phillips and his wife Leslie, Carol A. Stafford and her husband Steve, Tom E. Phillips, Mindy B. Callahan and her husband Kevin, and Paula J. Putnam and her husband Rodney; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 10 siblings. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 9th, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Grace Bible Church, 18 W. Main St. New Freedom, PA. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am on Friday, November 9th at the church. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Hartenstein Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom is assisting the family with services.
