Mary E. Reed

Mary E. (Ryer) Reed, 99, of York, formerly of New Freedom, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024.

She was the loving wife of the late William H. Reed.

Born in New Freedom, she was the daughter of the late Francis A. and Laura Estelle (Rider) Ryer.

Mary was a life member and parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for 99 years. She loved traveling extensively, especially with St. John’s Jewels and was the former president for many years. Mary retired from York Hospital after 30 years of service as an LPN. Mary also enjoyed getting together with family, bowling, knitting and gardening.

Surviving are her two sons, Dennis B. Reed and his wife Lynn and Steven M. Reed and his wife Judy, seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Sheri A. Martin, brother John Ryer and sister Clara Shuchart.

A funeral liturgy will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
