With heavy hearts and great sorrow, we announce that Matt Thompson, 55, of Stewartstown, PA, previously of Baltimore, MD, passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 3, 2023.

Born November 4, 1967, in Towson, Maryland, Matt was the loving husband of Stacey (Stringer) Thompson with whom he shared 31 years of marriage. Matt was the devoted father of Kennedy Thompson and Madison Thompson-Prummer, and father-in-law to Christoph Prummer.

Matt leaves behind an army of loved ones and close personal friends who are shattered by his passing. Matt was the brother of Michele Schonbrunner, Michael Thompson, and Toby Thompson and beloved brother-in-law to Holly Thompson, Jody (Stringer) Florence, Rick Florence, Kelly (Stringer) Matthews and  Steve Matthews. He was a loving uncle to Maria (Schonbrunner) Hoffman and Matthew Hoffman, Jesse Schonbrunner and Luci Schonbrunner, Luke and Zane Florence, Abby and Anderson Thompson, Lee Silk and Ben Matthews. He was the great-uncle to Logan Hoffman, Josie Seward, and Layla Schonbrunner. Matt was the son of Beverly Ann Finn and Michael Scott Thompson and son-in-law to Ron and Linda Stringer who predeceased him.

Matt was lovingly raised by his uncle and aunt, Timmy and Sandy Thompson, in Hampden in Baltimore City, MD. Matt graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. He worked at Smith’s Detection, Inc. in Edgewood, MD and previously worked at Noxell/Procter & Gamble and Harley-Davidson.

Matt had an integral role in the inception and growth of lacrosse in South Central, PA. Matt coached middle school, high school, and club levels of girls’ lacrosse in York County for over a decade with the K-D Rams, Shooting Irish, and York Catholic High School where he was a pivotal part of the inaugural seasons of those programs and their development into perennial powers in York County and the State of Pennsylvania. He and his wife Stacey were also founding and current members of the York Invaders Lacrosse Club, for whom Matt coached for over 5 years. Matt also helped to kickstart the Masters Men’s League in Norrisville, MD where he played for several seasons.

Matt was an avid fan of the Baltimore Ravens and the Orioles. He enjoyed biking and kayaking with Stacey and his sister Michele and loved the beach. He mostly loved spending time with his family and friends. He steadily and reliably served his family, his friends, and his colleagues every single day with an easy-going nature, humor, intelligence, humility, gentleness, and hard work.
