Mildred M. Mitchem, 86, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. She was the loving wife of James R. Mitchem, and they were joined in marriage on April 11, 1953, just short of 70 years. Born in the small town of Leckie, WV, she was the daughter of the late Ottis and Ellen (Sexton) Newsome. Mildred had been employed as a bookkeeper for Dr. Charton in Maryland.
Mildred, Mom, Granny, Grandma, Millie, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her family and friends. Always a caring and thoughtful person to everyone who knew or just met her.
A deep devotion to her faith, which helped to sustain her over these past difficult years. She always did her best to instill that faith in others; with her work at the church, and her personal testimony of faith to many. Always a smile, a hug, a kiss to everyone who entered her home, and no one ever left hungry.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three children, Deborah E. Neal and her husband, James of York, PA, Ronald W. Mitchem and his wife, Linda of Lutherville, MD, and Melissa R. Nickles and her husband, Joseph of Shrewsbury; 5 grandchildren, Amy Gardini (Shawn), Andrew Neal (Dona), Rachel Cyr (Henry), Joshua Mitchem (Shelby), Carley Rouse (Dr. Michael Rouse); 6 great grandchildren, Grace and Sarah Gardini; Hayley, Hunter, and Tyler Neal; and Harper Mitchem; and a sister, Pearl. Mildred was preceded in death by siblings, Joy, Doris, Betty, and James. Mildred also leaves a best friend of 70 years, Barbara, who she thought of as a sister.
