Miriam L. Fix, 90, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home, Thursday, August 31, 2023. Per her wishes she was brought home on Hospice after a brief hospital stay. She was so fortunate to be blessed with so many families and friends showing her love and support during her short stay back home. She even received a manicure from a very dear friend.
Born November 27,1932 Miriam was the daughter of Grover Gemmill and Flo A. Waltemeyer. She grew up in Stewartstown and was a 1950 graduate of Stewartstown High School. Miriam married her soul mate Charles Fix on March 17,1951. They were married 70 years prior to his passing in 2021. They lived most of their lives in a small house in Shrewsbury that was always filled with love and laughter. She worked for Shenbergers Packing Co. in Stewartstown, Hungerford Packing Co, Amp Inc., and retired after many years from Southern York Co. School district.
Miriam was the end of a generation as she was preceded in death by her three sisters: Reba Kashner, Romaine Geisecke, and Elizabeth Jones. Miriam was the rock of the family. Family was so important to her. For many years she took charge of the Gemmill reunions and for that we are so blessed with so many fond memories.
Both of our parents were such caring and giving role models that made us who we are today. Four generations spent a lot of time at their camp in Potter Co. known as God's Country.
Miriam is survived by three children: Dean Fix and wife Sue of Abbottstown, Brenda Deller and husband Wade of Dallastown, and Brian Fix of Glen Rock. She has 9 grandchildren: Chad Fix and Brandon Fix, Wendy DeGroft, George Miller, Brianna and Angie Deller, Carly Freet, Hunter and Cheyenne Fix. She has 11 great grandchildren and 12 great, great grandchildren. She was also particularly fond of a grand-pup who would visit her frequently.
Miriam’s family would like to thank all her family and friends that comforted her during her illness.
In lieu of flowers donations can be to American Cancer Society to honor two of her family members that are currently battling this awful disease.
A public graveside service will be held Thursday, September 7 at 11am at Stewartstown Cemetery located on Cemetery Ave, Stewartstown, PA 17363.
