January 17, 1928 - April 26, 2024 Paul Joseph Stadler Sr., 96, of York, PA and formerly of Erie, passed away peacefully on Friday April 26, 2024, at Celebration Villa of York. He was born in Erie on January 17, 1928, son of the late, Albert J. and Agnes Cecilia (Renner) Stadler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Else “Effie” Emma (Hedderich) Stadler in 2000, brother, William H. Stadler and sister, Mary M. Matters. He is survived by his son, Paul and Nancy (wife) of New Freedom, PA; two grandchildren, Daniel (Essex MD) and Megan and Ralph (husband) Calafati; three great-grandchildren, Reece, Luca, and Colton (Schwenksville, PA). Paul grew up in Hammett Pa. He attended Academy High School. After High School, he enlisted in the US Navy and was Honorably discharged. Then he enlisted in the Army. He met his future wife Else Hedderich in Giessen Germany. Paul retired in 1967 as a Master Sergeant (E-8) and returned to Erie. He worked for Pennsylvania National Insurance Company as an adjuster for 22 years. In December 2022 he moved to York PA to be closer to family. Paul was a very talented amateur wood carver winning many prizes. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter. He enjoyed cooking, Paul was a member of the Maennerchor, the Siebenbuerger Club. He was a founding member of the German Cultural Society of Erie. Friends may call at the Brugger Funeral Home & Crematory 1595 West 38th St. Erie, PA 16508 on Saturday May 11, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Interment with full military honors will take place in the future at Arlington National Cemetery.
