With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Paul Kenneth Wylie Anderson. Born in Baltimore, MD on July 16, 1984, he left us too soon on March 4, 2025. Paul was a beloved husband, son, brother, friend, musician, and teacher who touched the lives of all who knew him and experienced his passion for life, music, and his desire to be a positive force in the world.
Paul was born to William and Ann (Wylie) Anderson. Growing up in Arnold, MD, he was always outside playing sports with his friends and his brother, Rob. Paul played baseball on several Little League teams in elementary and middle school. He also played for several years on a youth basketball team and spent many evenings and weekends playing neighborhood street hockey and later, skateboarding. Paul was a Baltimore Orioles fan and followed the games closely with his grandmother and brother.
Music was an important part of Paul’s life from an early age and his middle school dream was to become a radio DJ. Paul was a versatile musician and was happy to play guitar folk duets with his dad after dinner before going out to play pop punk music and drink beer with his friends. He was in several bands throughout middle and high school, including Soap on a Rope, More or Less, and Julian Gallows. Paul graduated from Broadneck High School in 2002.
Paul went to UMBC and got a degree in English. He later decided to follow in his parents’ footsteps and became a teacher. Paul met his future wife, Erin McAndrews, through the Baltimore City Teaching Residency Program. He was a dedicated teacher at Grove Park and Steuart Hill Elementary/Middle Schools, who constantly sought out creative ways to connect with his students.
Paul and Erin got married at Glen Echo Park on June 29, 2013 and eventually left Baltimore City to move to a 12-acre farm in Felton, Pennsylvania. When people would visit them at the farm, it was common for Paul to greet guests holding a cat or chicken and offering homemade bagels and fresh eggs to take home.
Music remained a constant in Paul’s life, and he went on to play in several more bands, including Wyoming Exploded, Young Alumni, and Her Fantastic Cats. He was especially thrilled to have the opportunity to play at the Artscape Festival in Baltimore and at Rams Head On Stage in Annapolis. Paul poured his heart and soul into his music.
Paul had a great sense of humor and always had a witty comment or on-point impersonation ready to go. He genuinely cared about others and was one of those rare people who truly listened. He had the warmest smile and the biggest heart.
Paul is survived by his wife, Erin McAndrews; parents, William and Ann Anderson; brother, Robert Anderson; sister, Rebecca Anderson (and her husband, Braden Dauer); and countless friends who were touched by his life.
Rest in peace, Paul. You will always be loved, remembered, and celebrated for the joy, laughter, and music you brought to all of us.
