Philip A. Piermatteo, Jr., 89, of Shrewsbury passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Philip A. Piermatteo, Sr. and Gertrude (Thomas) Piermatteo. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Ann (Parker) Piermatteo in 1997. He is survived by five children Michael P. Piermatteo of York, Philip A. Piermatteo III and his wife Sharon of Shrewsbury, Marie Alice Novak and her husband John of Chicago, Teresa Ann Leonard and her husband Rob of Taneytown, MD, and John Piermatteo of York; seven grandchildren Marc and his wife Kim, Joshua and his wife Cate, Philip IV (Tony), Maddie, Ann, Zee and Emma; four great grandchildren Analeigh, Everett, Nathan and Cole and his grand-dog Tucker. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. In 1995, he retired from Verizon, formerly Western Electric with over 35 years of service. He served over 20 years of active service in the U.S. Marine Corp. with an additional 20 years in the Reserves. He was an avid golfer and Emeritus member at Bon Air Country Club in Glen Rock. He also was a founding President of the Shrewsbury Library. A funeral liturgy will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 beginning at 12:00p.m. at John the Baptist Catholic Church; 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA 17349 with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans of America Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic School; at the above address.
