Jean (Raines) Kurtz

Phyllis Jean Raines Kurtz (Jean), 88, of 5 Fulton Ave., Stewartstown, PA, died on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. She was the beloved wife of William A. Kurtz (Bill) for almost 70 years. Born in Norrisville, MD (Hartford County), she was the daughter of the late Charles A. Raines and Anna Mae (Overbay) Raines. They were loving, and loved, parents.

She graduated in 1952 from Stewartstown High School. Jean was a former member of the Norrisville Methodist Church until she was married on Oct. 18, 1952, and then joined the Stewartstown United Methodist Church. For many years, Jean worked as a waitress and met many wonderful people. She retired from AMP Inc. in 1992 after 23 years of service.

In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by 2 wonderful sons, Keith and his wife, Debbie and Craig and his wife, Michele (They were all loving, kind, and thoughtful to her); 4 grandchildren (her pride and joy who she loved dearly) Stephanie DeBragga, Matthew Kurtz, Heather McAllister and Nathan Kurtz and their spouses; 3 great grandchildren, Levi McAllister, Eleanor DeBragga and William DeBragga (Her little angels); a sister, Melvene Geesey (Her precious twin) and her husband, Ronnie; 3 sisters-in-law, Nancy Kurtz, Jo McAllister and her husband, Mac, and Linda Eberly. Also surviving are a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins who Jean loved dearly. She was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Juanita, Hazel, Ruby, Thelma, and Glenda.

A service of remembrance will be held at the Stewartstown United Methodist Church, 26 N. Main St., Stewartstown, PA 17363, at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 10, 2022. A visitation will begin at 10 am for those who want to offer condolences to her family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SUMC Organ Fund in memory of her best and loyal friend, Nancy Hall Allen, who was the organist for many years. HartensteinCares.com
