R. Jane Smithson

R. Jane Smithson (née DeVoe), passed away at her home in Felton, PA on April 27, 2021 at the age of 90 years old. She was born on July 18, 1930 in Rocks, MD to the late Ross Hayward DeVoe and Emma Gretta (Moore) DeVoe. Jane was first and foremost the loving mother of 6 children. In her younger years, she and her husband Jack enjoyed fox hunting with their hounds. This was an activity they would do with their family for many years. Jane retired from Harford County Public Schools as a head cook in the cafeteria, with over 20 years of service. She was also an avid bird watcher, loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and especially enjoyed cooking dinners on Sunday evenings after church for her entire family. Jane was preceded in death by her dear husband John “Jack” M. Smithson and their daughter Barbara S. Wagner, and 8 siblings. She is survived by her beloved children; John Smithson (Diane), Denise Wolfe (Randy), Mary Jane Gorrell (Bill), Debra Peters, and Michael Smithson (Lori); her sister Betty (DeVoe) Grein, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, with 2 more on the way.
