Rebecca Lee Becicka, passed away unexpectedly on July 12, 2022 in Puerto Rico. She was born on December 15, 1980 to Leonard John and Deborah Lee Becicka. At the time of her death, Rebecca was close to completing her doctoral degree while attending the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus. She was completing her thesis "Lionfish life history characteristics and spatial patterns in Southwest Puerto Rico" and was a leader in this field of research. "Becca" as her friends caller her, was an extremely loving, empathetic, courageous, full of life individual. She cared not only for her family and friends, but for the wellbeing of all that she knew. She was dedicated to her passions; her love for animals, especially dogs, for the ocean, and to her research. She was a brave woman who fought for the conservation of our natural resources and did so because it was genuinely a belief she carried in her heart. Becca is survived by her loving parents, Leonard and Deborah Becicka, and a myriad of extended family members, friends, and colleagues. She was loved by so many and will truly be missed by all.
