Rev. Dr. Mark L. Hopkins

Rev. Dr. Mark L. Hopkins, 87, of New Freedom passed away Friday, April 30, 2021, at WellSpan York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Mary E. Hopkins to whom he was married 63 years. Born in Dover, PA, he was the son of the late Mark H. and Iona (Miller) Hopkins. Rev. Dr. Hopkins began his ministry in 1961 and retired in 2017 as the pastor of the New Freedom Baptist Church. He was the pastor there from 1968 until his retirement. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by four children, Deborah, wife of Rev. Tim Bullock, John Hopkins, Rev. Michael A. Hopkins and wife Shelly, and Elizabeth, wife of Mark Choquette; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ann Wolcott and Joan, wife of Gene Smith. Rev. Dr. Hopkins was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebekah Sue Phillips. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at 11 AM at New Freedom Baptist Church, 851 Campbell Rd., New Freedom, with Missionary David Warner officiating. The burial will be private. A viewing will be held from 9 AM until 11 AM at New Freedom Baptist Church on Wednesday. Military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard will be rendered at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to New Freedom Baptist Church, P.O. Box 157, New Freedom, PA 17349 in his memory.
