Richard John Baer

Richard John Baer, 89, passed away Friday, February 12, 2021. He was the loving husband of Norma Sue (Barton) Baer who passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, and they shared 62 years of marriage. Born in Hopewell Twp., he was the son of the late John C. and Margaret (Thompson) Baer. Richard was a farmer, owning and operating the farm with his father and brother, Donald.He also worked construction for Lin-Mar in Maryland.He proudly served in the U.S. Army. Richard sold the farm’s produce and eggs in York for many years.In his later years he could he found in his large garden and tending his roadside vegetable stand with pride.People often requested him to grow specific vegetables.When not gardening, he could be found at his grandchildren’s sporting events or a good bluegrass event! Surviving is a son, Cliff Baer and his wife, Dawn of New Freedom; 2 grandchildren, Dakota Baer and fiancée Karissa Warehime, and Summer Skidmore and her husband, James Nate Skidmore; 2 twin great grandchildren, Lila Skidmore and James Skidmore III; 2 step grandchildren, Nicole Marchio and Alicia Marchio Wright and her husband, Lance; 2 step great grandchildren, Lance and Max Wright; a sister, Peggy Miller, and a sister-in-law, Shirley Baer. Richard was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Baer. There will be a graveside service honoring Richard’s life at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, 200 S.
