Richard W. Bittrick

Dr. Richard W. Bittrick, 77, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. He was the loving husband of Carol Jean (West) Serio and they were married for 8 years. Born in Balt., MD, he was the son of the late Warren and Emilie (Burgemeister) Bittrick. Richard graduated high school from Polytechnic Institution in Baltimore and later from Lehigh University with an engineering degree.He received a MBA from Stanford University and then served in the United States Air Force where he obtained the rank of Captain and was a professor at the academy.Further expanding his vast education, he obtained a medical degree from the University of Maryland. Richard had a private medical practice for 20 years after which he took a position doctoring youth in the Maryland State Department of Juvenile Services from which he retired at 75 years of age. He was a devoted husband and father, and loved traveling and spending time with family & friends.He was an avid runner and enjoyed watching his beloved Ravens play, rarely missing a game.Richard was also a dedicated viewer of Jeopardy. Surviving in addition to his wife are 5 children, Katherine (Jeff) Bittrick, Molly (David) Bittrick, Gabrielle, Cameron, and Alden Bittrick; 3 step children, Jennifer, Jill, and Julie; and 7 step grandchildren. Dr. Bittrick was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Bittrick. There will be a life celebration honoring Richard’s life at a later date. HartensteinCares.com
