Richard J. ‘Dick’ Cain, 86, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021. He was the loving husband of L. Jeannine (Hanus) Cain and they celebrated 60 years of marriage in September 2021. He was born in Baltimore, to the late Frank and Mildred (Rines) Cain. Dick was an executive systems accountant for Social Security for many years. He received the Associate Commissioner’s Citation for leadership in obtaining the general officer’s approval of SSA’s administrative accounting systems. He successfully developed and implemented an automated SSA-wide accounting system in fulfillment of the requirements of GAO, BOB, Treasury, HEW and SSA. Dick enjoyed travelling, especially to Ireland. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Knights of Columbus. Irish cultural events and music played a significant part in his life, he enjoyed watching all sports on TV and golfing in his later years. Surviving in addition to his beloved wife are three children, Brian R. Cain and his wife, Lisa, Maureen J. Wade and her husband, David, and Kathleen A. Foster. He is also survived by former in-laws Bryan Foster, and Theresa Lightner; 6 grandchildren: Brenden Cain, Melissa Cain, Kristin Wade, Steven Wade (wife Meghan), Erin Foster and Kathryn Foster. Dick was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Michael, and Kenneth Cain. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a viewing from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, November 28, at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. 2nd St., New Freedom, PA 17349. There will be a Funeral Liturgy at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 29, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, Pa17349. Interment will follow in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, Timonium, MD 21093.
