Richard M. Doster, Sr., 87, died Friday evening October 22nd at York Hospital after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.He was born in Freeland, MD and was the son of the late Wilbur and Reba (Rosier) Doster.He was the husband of the late Marjorie (Measley) Doster with whom he celebrated 43 years of marriage at the time of her death in 1997.He is survived by his daughter, Shirley and his son Richard, Jr. He is also survived by his companion Dorothy Archer. Richard was preceded in death by his brother, James. Richard worked as a dump truck driver and cement truck driver for Harry T. Campbell – Genstar – now LaFarge for more than 35 years.Side jobs of concrete work provided driveways, sidewalks, basement floors and ramps to many local homes as well as Mt. Zion Church.He loved farming and taking care of his cattle.He loved boating and going crabbing and fishing.Water skiing at Deep Creek Lake was the family vacation since the late 60’s and his absolute favorite week of the year when he would finally relax. Richard loved animals.His cats: Muffin, Smoky and Patches.His beagle dogs Tiny, and the family dachshund, “Outs.”He had much joy with his last dog a Boston Terrier, Daisy, and his dachshund grand-dogs, Ashleigh, Footer, Katelyn and Rocky. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 11AM from Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 20901 Mt. Zion Rd., Freeland, MD with Rev. Dennis Schulze officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. Viewings will be held Friday evening from 5-7pm at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St. New Freedom and on Saturday from 10am until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 20901 Mt.
