Richard Martin Farrell

Richard M. Farrell, Sr., age 84, of Shrewsbury, PA died peacefully, surrounded by family in the early morning of June 24, 2018. Dick was born in Baltimore, MD on December 23, 1933 as the only child of the late Regina (Maerz) and Martin Farrell. He joined the Navy in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1956.Dick met the love of his life, Mary Jane, whom he married on July 6, 1957.He was a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University and spent his career in the health care industry; most notably with Abbott Labs for 22 years.He was active in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church since 1978.He was a graduate of the Ecclesiastical Lay Ministry program in the Harrisburg Diocese. Dick is survived by his wife Mary Jane (Scallon) and children Kathleen M. Wills (Scott) and Richard M. Farrell, Jr. (Lisa) as well as six grandchildren, Ashleigh Swanson (Justin), R. Griffin Wills, Richard M. Farrell, III (Madison), Jacob D. Farrell (Molly), Samuel S. Wills and Benjamin X. Farrell.Also survived by one great-granddaughter, Finnley C. Farrell. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11am on Tuesday, July 3, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA 17349.Dick will be saving you a seat. Interment is private. His wishes are, in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church at the address above to benefit the Poor through the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
