Richard L. Mcwilliams

Rev. Richard L. McWilliams, 93, of New Oxford formerly of York went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Brethren Home at Cross Keys. He was the husband of Lois E. (Grim) McWilliams whom he married August 21, 1949 and celebrated 68 years of marriage. Born in Seitzland he was a son of the late Elwood C. and Vertie M. (Ness) McWilliams. Richard graduated from Glen Rock High School as vice president of the class of 1943. He was a WWII veteran who served in the South Pacific theatre of operations for 23 months. He was a T5 corporal in the 506 collecting company, a combat medical unit attached to the 158th regimental combat unit, better known as the Bushmasters. Richard was a founder and former member of the Dry Run hunting camp in Centre County and enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking, Loganville and Jacobus Fire Co. and the Jacobus Ambulance Association. He sang with the Glen Rock Carol Singers for 20 years. Richard served as an ordained minister in the Pleasant View Church of the Brethren for 27 years and 5 months retiring in 1989. He attended Elizabethtown College for three years preparing for ministry. He served as moderator for six years and taught Sunday school for 35 years. Richard worked for Reed Machinery Company and also for Southern School District and retired from Metropolitan Edison Company after 34 years on December 31, 1986. In addition to his wife Lois, he is survived by three children Rev. Jay R. McWilliams and wife Joyce of Windsor, Ted O. McWilliams and wife Beth of York and Crystal K., wife of Kevin Stiffler of York; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Clare of Williamsport and siblings Charles McWilliams and wife Sidney of Glen Rock, and Aunita, wife of Austin Fringer of York. He was preceded in death a son Gary L. McWilliams and two brothers Clark and Francis McWilliams and one sister Charlotte Rinehart. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 11AM from Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, 10384 Winterstown Rd. Red Lion. Visitations will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at the church and also from 10am until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 1513 Cedar Cliff Dr. Suite 100, Camp Hill, PA 17011, Good Samaritan Fund at the Brethren Home Community at Cross Keys, 2990 Carlisle St., New Oxford, PA 17350 or to Pleasant View Church of the Brethren at the above listed address.
