Richard L. Nace

September 8, 1935 — April 18, 2018

Richard L. Nace, 82, of New Freedom passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Wellspan York Hospital. He was the husband of E. Joann (Bailey) Nace to whom he was married 25 years and the late Annabelle J. (Hittie) Nace to whom he was married 33 years, who passed away in 1991. Born in New Freedom he was a son of the late Stewart and Treva (Shive) Nace. Richard was a 1953 graduate of Susquehannock High School and enjoyed travel, reading, coin collecting and gardening. He spent his career working 48 years for True Value Hardware as the store manager in New Freedom and Loganville. In his younger years he worked for Al George at the New Freedom Lumber Company, Penrose Taylor on his farm and Reliance Motor Coach Company. Richard was a kind and humble man who never met a stranger and always cared about others before himself. He served his country in the US Army as a heavy vehicle truck driver and was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Freedom where he was active on church council, life member of Rose Fire Co, New Freedom Sewer Authority and the New Freedom Cemetery Association for many years. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife Joann, he is survived by three sons Gregory Nace of Lower Chanceford Twp, Kevin Nace and wife Kim of New Freedom and Dennis Nace and wife Jen of Loganville; six step-children Dale Bosley and wife Cindy of Hopewell Twp., Diane, wife of David Bigler of Chambersburg, Cathy, wife of John Yadlosky of Biglerville, William Bosley and wife Randi of Phoenix, MD, Sharon Gates of Nashville TN and Steven Bosley and wife Cathy of Dallastown; seven grandchildren Katie Boyer, Ashley, Thomas and wife Abby, Kayla, Matthew, Ethan and Gregory Nace, Jr.; ten step-grandchildren Jonathon Bigler, Alaina Rafferty, Nathan, Brian and Joshua Yadlosky, Caleb, Richard and Bailey Bosley, Tyler Gates and Landen Bosley; six step-great-grandchildren; one brother Paul Nace and wife Jean of Glen Rock and one sister Barbara, wife of Dean Ferree of New Freedom. Richard was preceded in death by a granddaughter Heather Michelle Nace. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 11AM from St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 175 E. Main St. New Freedom with Rev. George M. Schneider officiating. Interment with Military Honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard will follow in New Freedom Cemetery. Viewings will be held Monday evening from 5-8pm from Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St. New Freedom and on Tuesday from 10AM until the time of the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, PO Box 25, New Freedom, PA 17349 in his memory.
