Richard Q. Rivers (Dick), 82, formerly of Stewartstown and Delta, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Pleasant Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born October 28, 1936, and raised in Gladstone, MI, he was the son of the late Wilbert G. and Mildred (Anderson) Rivers of Stewartstown. Dick was a graduate of Gladstone High School.While in school, he was a football and hockey player.During his teenage years, he set up a film developing lab in his bedroom and became very successful.He was also known as a cartoonist.At the end of his senior year, he submitted his cartoons to Walt Disney Studios in California and he received a call asking him to come to California for an interview.However, he had already signed up for the United States Air Force prior to the call and was committed for 4 Years. In his third year in the service, he had an accident in London and was hospitalized for a while, which led to being honorably discharged.His parents by then had moved to PA and he joined them.He continued his drawings.He is survived by his sisters, Anita Rivers and Rita Brewer; his nieces and nephews, Laurie, Mike, and Steve Brewer and Kim Dinneen. Dick was a very kind and peaceful man who loved our Lord with all his heart, and will be forever missed by his sisters and family. There will be a private graveside service in Stewartstown at the convenience of the family. To the staff at Pleasant Acres, thank you for your kindness to Richard and our family.
