Richard "Dick" Rufo

Deeply loved father, brother, uncle, and “grandpop.” Dick passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by the love of family and friends. Dick was a man who held on to a strong work ethic and a care for family, even to the end. He spent his last days not concerned with his own wellbeing, but concerned for others and what he might be able to do for them. Dick succumbed to his illness on January 4th, 2019. He was preceded by his beloved wife Betty Ann (Kelly). The couple was reunited in time to celebrate their 57th wedding anniversary on January 6th. Dick was born February 3rd, 1940 to the late Peter L and Mary A (McGuire) Rufo of Philadelphia, PA. He was a 1957 graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School in Philadelphia. Dick was also a veteran of the United States Armed Forces. He was preceded by one brother, Edward of Voorhees, NJ and is survived by two others, Jim and Dee of Broomall, PA and Bob and Louise of Lewis, DE He is also survived by his six sons and “daughters”; Rick and Barbara Rufo of Seven Valleys, PA; Pete and Jennifer Rufo of York, PA; Robert “Bob” and Deborah Rufo of York, PA; James “Dean” and Teresa Rufo of Spring Grove, PA; Edward “Jeff” and Lisa Rufo of Felton, PA; and Kevin and Jennifer Rufo of Alton, IL. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and his two great-grandchildren, who will forever feel blessed to have had him share their lives. There will be a viewing from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom with a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the New Freedom Cemetery with a flag folding ceremony provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard.
