Richard Alan Torbert, Sr.

Richard Alan Torbert, Sr., 88, passed away at Autumn House in York, PA, on April 2, 2023. He was the loving husband of 30 years to the late Janet S. (Engle) Torbert. Richard was born in New Freedom, PA to the late Everyl M. Torbert and Dorothy I. (Billet) Torbert. Richard began his career at AMP Corp. in New Freedom, PA, before moving to Dupont Berg Electronics, where he worked as a Senior Engineering Technician, until his retirement. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion, in Manchester, PA. Richard loved woodworking, playing cards, an occasional swim and visiting the casinos to play the slot machines. He loved spending time with family and friends. Richard is survived by his children; Richard A. Torbert, Jr. and his wife, Whitney, Debora Orwig, and Kathy Vaught; 4 grandchildren, Jaime Vaught and his wife, Jessica, Heather Mendoza, Michelle Howard and her husband, Jarred, and Riley Torbert; 7 great grandchildren, Emmanuel Mendoza, Trey Vaught, Julian Mendoza, Ava Mendoza, Davian Drake, Jayce Hartshorn, and Jaxon Howard; 5 siblings, William Torbert and his wife, Marilyn, Mona Helsing and her husband, Joseph, Gerald Torbert and his wife, Kathleen, and Patti Sweet; in laws, Raye Engle, John Engle, and Wanda Engle Lloyd and her husband, Wayne; he is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews; Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, brother, Donald Torbert, brother in law, Bob Engle, and sister in law, Marlene Engle Bales. A viewing will be held on Saturday, April 15, from 5:00 pm- 7:00 pm, Full Military honors will be rendered at 7:00 pm with a funeral service to follow. Pastor Kim E. Erdman will officiate. Interment will be private.
