Robert Eugene Hill

Robert Eugene Hill, 87, of Stewartstown, passed away peacefully on January 23, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Dollie Ruth (Joines) Hill. They were married on December 27, 1957. Together, they celebrated 65 years of marriage. Robert was born in Chilhowie, VA, to the late, Frank David and Eva Caroline (Wyatt) Hill.

Robert was a 1953 graduate of Sparks High School. He served in the United States Army for three years. A self-made industrial engineer, he served his drafting apprenticeship at Borg Warner, Inc. in York, PA. He then worked for Westinghouse Electric Corp., in Hunt Valley, MD, as well as, M&M Mars Candy Company in Elizabethtown, PA, where he retired from, in 1999.  Robert helped build three churches, including Stewartstown Baptist church, where he was a founding member. He also served as a secretary for the Keystone Baptist Convention of PA, for seven years.

Robert was a talented woodcarver. One of his well-known carvings was displayed in his yard and consisted of a set that included Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, and Tigger for passers-by to admire. Robert enjoyed the outdoors, listening to bluegrass and playing the fiddle and guitar in the Gloryland Express Band. He loved to travel and treasured visiting bluegrass festivals in his camper with his brother, Walter. One of his most memorable adventures was a trip he took with his wife, Dollie, for their 50 ^th wedding anniversary to Ireland. Robert once was asked if there was anything left that he wished he would have done during his lifetime. His response was “I’ve seen everything I wanted to see, and had a family and job I loved, I am happy and at peace.”

Bob is survived by his wife, Dollie; two sons, Christopher Hill (Kathleen), Glenn Hill (Tina); two grandsons, Trevor Hill and Shane Hill (Mikayla); one granddaughter, Alyssa Koyce; and two brothers, Max Hill and Jack Hill. He was preceded in death by his siblings; Herbert Hill, Elva Davis, Rebecca Davis, Walter Hill; and a grandson, Stone Hill.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 28 ^th , from 10:00 am- 12:00 pm at Hartenstein Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc., 19 S. Main Street, Stewartstown, PA 17363. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm. Interment will be immediately following the service in the Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, Chestnut Hill Rd., York, PA, 17402. Military honors will be rendered by the York County Veterans Honor Guard, at the graveside service.
