Roland Russel (Bud) Smith, 95, of Shrewsbury passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022 at his residence with his family by his side.He was the husband of the late Ruth Romaine (Orwig) Smith, with whom he married on April 16, 1949, celebrating 68 happy years together. Born on his grandparents Smith farm in Middletown (Freeland), Maryland on October 16, 1926, he was the son of the late Russel W. Smith and the late Florence M. (Wagner) Smith. He was a lifelong resident of Shrewsbury and he graduated from Shrewsbury High School. He was a carpenter by trade and a farmer. He was employed at Seiling’s Furniture Factory, Ervin Hare Cabinetry, Wright B. Shaw, and retired from J. A. Stumpf Builder. He was a member of St. John (Sadler’s) Lutheran Church, Stewartstown, where he served in many capacities: Church Council treasurer, Chairman of the Property Committee, Chicken Corn Soup committee where he could be found dipping the soup at the Picnic, Candy Making Committee; Building Committee; Call Committee; President of Sadler’s Cemetery Association, and was an all-around handyman at the Church. Bud served in the US Army 472nd Aviation Engineers during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in France where he built air strips. He was also in the Reserves. He is survived by his two daughters, Brenda R. Smith and Nancy L. Winemiller and her husband, C. Wade; 2 grandsons, Cory Winemiller and his wife Katie, and Josh Winemiller; a brother William Smith. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Phyllis Orwig and Charlotte Kochenour. The family would like to thank Deanie Taylor King Personalized Home Care and all of the many caregivers that have helped us over the years to take care of Bud as well as Hospice & Community Care. There will be a viewing from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2022, at St. John (Sadler’s) Lutheran Church; 2916 Sadler’s Church Rd., Stewartstown, PA 17363. The funeral service will be on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 12:00 pm with Pastor Edward J. Robbins officiating. Interment will follow in St. John (Sadler’s) Lutheran Church cemetery.
