Ronald O. Holmes

d. July 10, 2023

Ronald O. Holmes, of White Hall, MD, died peacefully on July 10, 2023, a few weeks after surgery for a brain tumor.  He was the loving and devoted husband of Andrea (Holloway) Holmes to whom he was married for 47 years.

Ron began his professional career in insurance - later moving to corporate finance for several years.  In 2000, he established a financial advisory practice serving clients over several counties in Maryland and Pennsylvania.  A highlight every year was the holiday luncheon at Friendly Farm Restaurant; he enjoyed hosting it and celebrating the Christmas season with them.  Many who had retired and moved out of state retained him as their advisor, and some made the trek to Maryland every year just to attend the party.

He was an American patriot.  His proudest accomplishment was becoming a United States Marine, where he served in Vietnam.  Ron always said, “Once a Marine – always a Marine!”  As a veteran, he was a member of The American Legion Post in Parkton, Maryland.

Ron had many interests, many collections, and was an avid hobbyist.  His special interests were target shooting, re-loading, collecting arrowheads, and crafting arrows.  As such, he was a member of Hopewell Fish and Game.  But his greatest passions were reading and gardening; he was an expert at identifying trees and plants.  He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in White Hall, where he had served on the Board of Trustees, and was a member of the Breakfast Bunch Bible Study.  Ron was also a loyal member of the Jarrettsville Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Award and Lion of the Year 2015-2016.  He established a Charitable Foundation for the club and served as its president, chaired the annual holiday fruit sale, and liked working at the summer carnival - especially the camaraderie of the “food shack” where he sold funnel cake tickets and joked with the customers.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three stepsons:  Jeffrey Lins (Erik) of Graested, Denmark; Gregory Lins (Shannon) of East Stroudsburg, PA;  Jeremy Lins (Koree) of Centreville, MD; and 5 Lins grandchildren:  Ayna, Andrew, Austin, Aiden, and Brendan.   He loved them all.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Presbyterian, 4135 Norrisville Rd., White Hall, MD 21161.  Luncheon to follow.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
