Rose M. Basta, 78, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018, at her daughter’s home. She was the loving wife of John L. Basta, Sr. and they celebrated 57 years of marriage in July 2018. Born in Freeland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Paul C. and Ruth M. (Miller) Schaeffer. Rose was employed at Black & Decker of Hampstead, Md., where she met John, and later worked for AMP/Tyco for over 20 years. A lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Rose was also a member of Jewels and was a church greeter. She enjoyed bowling, card games, loved spending time with her family, and was known for her warm hugs and helping others. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Surviving in addition to her husband, John Sr., is a daughter, Connie McNeil of Hanover, and a son, John L. Basta, Jr., husband of Christina of Glen Rock; 3 grandchildren, Alex, Zack, and Caden; 1 great grandchild, Carter; and a sister, Regina Jordan of Shrewsbury. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Schaeffer. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a visitation honoring Rose’s life on Wednesday, October 24, from 5-7 p.m. at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second Street, New Freedom. There will be a Funeral Liturgy on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom.
