Rosemarie Monahan was born December 10, 1931 in New York City to Hans Schweizer and Anna Schuster.She attended Guardian Angel Elementary School and Washington Irving High School where she studied Home Economics. Rosemarie had many talents and interests.She worked as a Window Decorator for Barricini Candy in Manhattan, then as a Training Director for Southland Corporation, the parent company for 7-11.In this role, she was the first female to serve as a company Director.Rosemarie loved to work as a volunteer at the La Salle Academy BINGO nights where she was the top seller every week. At age 47, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse graduating 2nd in her class at Caledonia Hospital Nursing School.She was proud to practice at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Greenwich Village and then she worked with Dr. Joyce Wallace, a pioneer in AIDS research in the 1980’s.Upon retirement, she continued to practice her nursing skills at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA. She was a self-taught watercolor artist and also loved to create beaded jewelry, taking great pride in giving her friends and family her creations.Rosemarie is well known for her love of dolls and Hummel figurines. Rosemarie passed away peacefully at home in Shrewsbury surrounded by family on October 17, 2020.She was predeceased by her loving husband of 69 years, Bob Monahan.They leave behind two children: Rosanne Torpey, wife of Brian Torpey, and Robert Monahan, husband of Elizabeth Monahan; five grandchildren and thirteen great children.She is also survived by her Identical Twin Sister, Annamarie O’Neill, her lifelong, best friend of 75 years, Dores LoBascio and her devoted neighbor and buddy, Christopher Hunt.
