On June 9, 2022, Russell Worhach, 88, died peacefully in his sleep while in the loving care of Madonna Heritage Assisted Living. Russ has now joined his recently deceased wife, Dorothy, to whom he was truly devoted and loved beyond measure. Russ was a man with great insight and intelligence. He was a devout Catholic. Originally from Mt. Carmel, Pennsylvania, Russ enjoyed talking about his childhood and his family. He graduated from Syracuse University with an electrical engineering degree. He launched his career with Westinghouse who eventually became Northrop Grumman, enjoying many years of employment with them where he was top in his field, eventually retiring as an Underwater Sonar Engineer. Russ enjoyed skiing, gardening, and coin collecting. He was a loving husband, brother, father, stepfather, and grandfather. He is survived by two of his many siblings (six), Pearl Worhach, (Sister Augustine of the Dominican Order) and Dorothy Bodick of Lewes, Delaware; three nephews, Timothy Bodick, wife, Terry also of Lewes, Delaware, Joe Bodick, Phoenix, Ar., Paul Bodick, wife, Wendy, Boulder, Co.; two children, Jeanne (Worhach) Zito, husband Darrell of Annapolis, Md., and Russell G. Worhach of York, Pa. ; three grandchildren, Kayla, Bryce and Nathan Zito; four step children, Deborah Anne (Nitchie) Leroy, husband Paul, of White Hall, Md., John J. Nitchie of Stewartstown, Pa., Stephen Nitchie, wife Sue (Hammons), of Flower Mound, Tx., and George F. Nitchie, wife Linda (Batzer) of Havre DeGrace Md.; eight step grandchildren, Brant Miller, wife Sharon (Krouse), PJ Leroy, Christopher Leroy, wife Lisa (Ekstrom), Haley, Carley, Macey, Logan and Savannah Nitchie; three step great grandchildren, Hank and Luke Miller and Landon Leroy. A joint celebration of life for Dorothy and Russ will be held beginning with a public visitation to be held on Friday, June 24, 2022 from 5:00PM – 8:00PM at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown, PA 17363.A Memorial Mass will be on Saturday, June 25, 2022,beginning at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church; 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA 17349. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at a later date.
