Ruth B. Henry (Street)

Ruth B. (Streett) Henry, 95, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at ManorCare Health Services, Dallastown. She was the wife of the late Eli Curtis Henry, Sr. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2016 at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown. The funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. at the Mortuary with Pastor Larry W. Parlett officiating. Interment will follow the service in Stewartstown Cemetery. Born April 23, 1920 in Harford County, Md., Ruth was a daughter of the late John M. and Estelle (Pyle) Streett. At age 14, she began working at the Stewartstown Sewing Factory. She rented a room across from Stewartstown Milling where she saw Eli Henry working and they married soon thereafter in September of 1938. In the 1950's she was employed by Black & Decker, Hampstead, Md. Ruth was an avid seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her family, was a great cook, baked specialty cakes for her grandchildren and friends, and made beautiful quilts for her family. She also enjoyed golfing, flower arranging and gardening, and was a world traveler. Ruth was an active member at Stewartstown United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the church choir and attending church meetings and activities. She was a member of its United Methodist Women and was a former Church Council member. She was also a member of the Eureka Volunteer Fire Co. & Ambulance Club, also in Stewartstown. Ruth's passion was caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she remained active in their lives into their college years. She was well-loved by her entire family. Surviving are her son, Dale W. Henry and his wife, Carol of Melbourne, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Linda (Hunt) Henry of Stewartstown and her late husband, Eli Curtis Henry, Jr.; grandchildren, Kristin Warner, Gretchen Becker, and Shannon and Stefan Henry; and great-grandchildren, Cassandra and Garrett Becker, Cheyna Warner, and Laine, Connor and Lindey Henry. In addition to her husband, son, and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark A. Henry; and seven siblings. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Ruth's name to Heartland Hospice, 3417-C Concord Road, York, PA 17402.
