Ruth K. Schmuck, 84, died Monday, January 2, 2017 at her home in Shrewsbury. She was the wife of the late George A. Schmuck. A public viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017 at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. The funeral service will begin at 7 p.m., Friday, with the Rev. Aaron Cope officiating. Following cremation, any additional services will be held at the convenience of the family. Born September 2, 1932 in Monkton, MD, Ruth was the daughter of the late Henry A. and Mary J. (Bailey) Krout. She was a former employee of Snyders of Hanover, retiring at the age of 62 after 23 years of service. She then was employed at Weis Markets and Walmart, both in Hanover, for many years. Ruth enjoyed crocheting, playing Bingo and preparing coffee for the members of the Coffee Club at Strasburg Haus Apartments. Surviving are a son, Robert E. Schmuck; three daughters, JoAnne Jenkins and her husband, Gregory, Deborah L. Robinson and her husband, Donald, and Tracy L. Schmuck; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and two sisters, Lottie Brown and her husband, Evans, and Doris Miller and her husband, Edward. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen S. Grim; and seven siblings.
