Samuel Arthur Spahr

Samuel Arthur Spahr, 48, a beloved husband and father, passed away Monday, June 13, 2016, at his home. He was born in York on October 5, 1967, to the late Leroy S. and Martha L. (Lefever) Spahr. A visitation will be held from 2 PM until 3 PM Sunday, June 19, 2016, at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. The funeral service will begin at 3 PM with the Rev. Bill Galinato officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Spring Grove. Sam played soccer and graduated from Central York High School in 1986. As a young adult, he developed a natural skill and passion for building and he continued framing and building homes as his career his entire life. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, cooking and sports. Sam was also a follower of Jesus Christ. He had every confidence that God was ultimately in complete control of everything, and that He was holding his hand though his journey in life on earth. He lived on a horse farm with his wife, Leah, of 26 years, where they raised their two daughters, Samantha and Carly. His great stories, silly sense of humor, and caring and kind ways will be missed dearly by them. Sam is survived by his wife, Leah (Shiflett) Spahr; his children, Samantha L. (Spahr) Sgagias and her husband Kostas, of York, and Carly J. Spahr, of Spring Grove; his siblings, Evelyn Perry and her husband, Richard of Florida, Ruth Galinato and her husband, William of York, Timothy Spahr and his wife, Melissa of Maine, and Elizabeth Stayman of York; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy W. Spahr.
