Sarah "Cacky" C. Herbert

Sarah “Cacky” Catherine (Smithson) Herbert, 92, of New Freedom, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025 with her family by her side. Born on May 7, 1932 in Pylesville, Maryland, she was a daughter to the late William Sr., and Edna (Rosier) Smithson. She was the loving wife of 68 years to the late Samuel “Wilson” Herbert who passed in 2018.

Cacky enjoyed cooking, going dancing with Wilson, and their trips to the beach. She was the owner of Cacky’s Beauty Salon in New Freedom for over 24 years. Before her beauty shop, she worked for Black & Decker for 17 years. She was a member of Trinity U.M.C. in New Freedom; a former member of Bentley Springs U.M.C., and St. Paul U.M.C. She also loved to watch the Baltimore Oriole’s and loved to travel.

She is remembered by her three grandchildren, Kelly Silk, Patti Cohn and husband Doug, and Steven Herbert and wife Lori; five great grandchildren, Christopher Silk, Shane Silk, Carli Cohn, Abby Herbert, and Olivia Herbert; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wilson; son, Joseph S. Herbert; grandson, Joseph Herbert, Jr.; and her siblings, William Jr., Ruth, Ruby, Richard, and Mary Lou.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 11 AM - 1 PM at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA 17349. A funeral service will begin at 1 PM at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Stablers Cemetery in Parkton, Maryland following the service.
