Sarah J. Ohliger

Sarah J. Ohliger, 97, died Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at York Hospital. A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, September 15 at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. A funeral service will begin at 11 am on Friday, September 16 at the mortuary with Pastor Jeffery A. Slemp, Jr. officiating. Interment will be private. Born September 17, 1918, Sarah was the daughter of the late Albert Frank and Sarah (Holdsworth) Ohliger. She was employed as an immigration inspector in New York City, NY with the U.S. Government for 20 years, retiring in 1981. She moved to Shrewsbury in 1992 with prior residence in Hicksville, NY. Sarah was a member of Grace Church Shrewsbury since 1992, the Happy Seniors in Shrewsbury, and AARP. Surviving are a brother, Thomas P. Ohliger and his wife, Carole of Stewartstown; 10 nieces and nephews; 16 great nieces and nephews; two great great nieces; and a great great nephew on the way. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert and Joseph; and a sister, Madeline.
