Selina M. Savinell

Selina M. Savinell, 71, passed from this life on Sunday, March 19, 2023. She was the loving wife of Christopher Savinell and they celebrated 36 years of marriage in August of 2022. Born in Hong Kong, Selina was the daughter of the late Kwan Hing and Kwan Yiu Lai Yin.

Selina was born and educated in Hong Kong, was always active in school, and participated in a variety of extra curricular activities. She had an especially strong passion for being involved in school drama performances. She was also strong in mathematics. After high school, she spent 3 years in nursing school, and one year of professional certification, eventually becoming a licensed professional nurse at Princess Margaret Hospital.  Following the British system, she gained experience in many different specialties, including General Surgery, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics. She was a Midwife, and delivered over 40 babies, the assignment she enjoyed the most! It was during this time period, in Hong Kong, that she came to know the Lord. Helping people to know the Lord became her passion throughout her life.  She helped establish the Women’s Ministry at Grace Fellowship Church, was a fervent member of the Grace Prayer Team, and helped establish and lead a Chinese Bible Study group in York, PA.

On a personal level, Selina was passionate about seeing and getting to know her grandchildren.  She got to know them while undergoing cancer treatment, and considered them a blessing from God.  Looking forward to seeing them became one of the things that helped her endure cancer therapy.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, Joseph Savinell and his spouse, Carrie of Silver Spring, MD; two grandsons, Lane and Theo Savinell; five siblings, David Kwan of Hong Kong, Alex Kwan and his spouse, Ester, also of Hong Kong, Stephen Kwan and his spouse, Dorothy of Canada, Simon Kwan and his spouse, Kim of Baton Rouge, LA, and Shirley Fong and her spouse, Joseph of Seattle, WA.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a viewing from 6-8 p.m., Friday, March 31 at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. 2 ^nd St., New Freedom, PA 17349. There will be a funeral at 10 am on Saturday, April 1, from Grace Fellowship Church Shrewsbury, 74 E. Forrest Ave., Shrewsbury, PA 17361, with the family receiving from 9:30 -10 a.m. (the casket will be closed at church). Selina’s memorial service will be live streamed on Grace Fellowship Church Shrewsbury’s Facebook page.
