Stella M. Ness

Stella M. Ness, 94, of Dallastown, formerly of New Freedom, passed away peacefully at York Hospital on Sunday, March 30, 2025. Born in West Virginia, she was a daughter to the late George and Delphia (Lewis) Tharp. She was the loving wife of 67 years to the late S. Kenneth Ness when he passed in 2018.

Stella worked for Dentsply in York for some time before going to work for BBL in Maryland where she transitioned to a supervisor position and eventually retired from. She enjoyed the flowers in her yard as well as mowing. Stella and Kenneth liked to go camping and enjoying the great outdoors. She was a devoted and caring wife to Kenneth. She will be missed by all who had the chance to know her.

She is remembered by her two sons, Kenneth E. Ness (Bonnie), and David B. Ness (Karen); 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren. Stella was preceded in death by her 3 siblings, Orville Tharp, Roy Tharp, and Mildred Shumaker.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 9-10 am at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA 17349. The funeral service will begin at 10 AM at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Michael Hopkins. Interment will immediately follow the service in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
