Thomas W. Needham, 91, of New Freedom, PA, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Burwell A. and Helen M. (Breitenbach) Needham. He was the loving husband to Marjorie J. (Dursthoff) and was about to celebrate their 65th Wedding Anniversary on January 23rd. Thomas served in the Navy during the Korean War and thereafter studied at and graduated from St. John’s University in New York where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. He did his Graduate work at Pace College in New York. Thomas worked as the Comptroller for Laborers’ International Union of North America for over 30 years where he retired in 1995. He enjoyed reading, playing baseball and played softball until he was 57. He also coached baseball for SYC and the MCBBA. Thomas would say, “I played a lot of ball and I coached a lot of ball. I did what I enjoyed.” Thomas was an avid Eagles fan. He loved listening to jazz and indulging his sweet tooth; eating lots of donuts and sweets. He loved his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Jack. Thomas is remembered by his wife, Maggie; four children, Sharon Brown (Russell), Lori Tracy (Sean), Jill Martire, and Tommy Needham (Kate); 9 grandchildren, Jessica (Jen), Brett (Ali), Katie (Chris), Ryan, Kylie, Hailey, Morgan, Chris, and Luke; 9 great grandchildren, Macie, Levi, Laney, Olive, Dominic, Wyatt, Celeste, Finn, and Piper; and his brother, Philip Needham. Family and friends are invited to a public viewing on Monday, December 16, 2024 from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA 17349. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 17th at 12 PM at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the service in New Freedom Cemetery.
